Email Endpoints provides additional services for transmitting email. This includes messages submitted through contact forms on your site as well as emails sent by your Koken installation. Normally all email goes through your host server's PHP installation, but this plugin routes all email through either Mandrill or your own SMTP server (including free Gmail and Google Apps accounts). This plugin can help make inbound email more reliable on servers with problematic PHP configurations.

Next: Setup

Here's how to setup Email Endpoints.

Mandrill

Mandrill is a transactional email service created by MailChimp. The service is super reliable, easy to setup, and your first 2,000 emails are free, so it won't cost you a dime. We recommend this option over SMTP for relative ease-of-use.

To use Mandrill, sign-up for a free account. Once your account has been created the Dashboard screen will provide configuration options for SMTP or API. Click the API option shown below.

Mandrill - Create API key

You'll land at the SMTP and API Credentials page. Click the Add API key button shown below.

Mandrill - Create API key

An API key will be created and added to your account (see below). Copy this key to your clipboard.

Mandrill - Copy API key

Leave Mandrill and sign-in to Koken. Go to Settings > Plugins, then click Setup next to Email Endpoints. Select "Mandrill" from the Provider option (see below), if not already selected. In the API key field paste the API key provided by Mandrill, then click Save.

Setup Mandrill

Now we need to tell Koken to use Mandrill when sending email. Go to Settings > Email and change Sender to "Mandrill" (see below). Check to make sure the Delivery address email is correct, then click Save settings to save your edits.

Config email for Mandrill

To test everything out, click the Send test email button. If all goes well you should receive an email.

SMTP

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is an industry standard for outgoing email. This endpoint option uses an email server to which you have SMTP access, including free Gmail accounts and Google Apps accounts. We'll use Gmail to demonstrate how to configure this option.

To get started, sign-in to Koken, click Settings > Plugins, then click Email Endpoint's Setup button. In the Provider row, select "SMTP". Enter the following in the fields provided.

  • SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
  • SMTP port: 465
  • SMTP username: Your full Gmail or Google Apps email address (e.g. example@gmail.com)
  • SMTP password: Your Gmail or Google Apps email password

Setup SMTP

When finished click the Save button.

Now you need to instruct Koken to use SMTP when sending email. Go to Settings > Email and change Sender to "SMTP". Check to make sure the Delivery address email is correct, then click Save settings to save your edits.

Config email for SMTP

To test everything out, click the Send test email button. If all goes well you should receive an email.

If you choose to use Gmail, keep in mind that Google limits the number of messages sent per day to 99 emails. If that's an issue you may consider using Mandrill (see above) or a separate SMTP server.
